MAF CEL and boost gauge light fixed
by Matt on Jan.10, 2010, under Repairs
Swapped in Brad’s Bosch MAF. It finally fixed my CEL that I have been trying to diagnose for 2 months!
I also rewired the boost gauge to make the light work. For the first time in 2.5 years of ownership the boost gauge can be seen at night

Troubleshooting some boost fluctuation
by Matt on Oct.17, 2009, under Logs, Repairs
I bought a MBC and a used N75 valve to try and correct my fluctuating boost. I don’t install the MBC but I do install the N75. The N75 doesn’t seem to help and after the install I have a “Signal too low” code for my MAF. Swapping the MAF with another doesn’t resolve the issue, it appears one of the wires in the harness may be broken. Dammit.
Coolant temperature sensor replacement
by Matt on Feb.15, 2009, under Repairs
Jason noticed some pink crust around the CTS last October so I ordered one, along with the o-ring and clip. A few weeks ago my temp gauge started to cut out intermittently. Today I swapped in the new sensor and it solved the problem.
Timing belt tensioner failure!
by Matt on Aug.15, 2008, under Repairs
Friday night I cruised down the 90 from Buffalo to Rochester tonight. When I arrived at my friend’s apartment in Rochester I heard an odd chatter/dieseling noise coming from the front of the engine. Thinking it might be another failed crank pulley. I drove the car to my parent’s house (carefully). Today I pulled the front end apart and found the timing belt tensioner has failed and the belt is VERY loose. Fortunately, it appears the belt hasn’t skipped a tooth and no damage has been done. I’m going to order a new tensioner & belt.
