It’s all patched up
by Matt on August 16, 2009
After a month of searching for used parts online I finally have the S4 back together. I replaced:
- Front headlight housings (only driver’s side was damaged but I wanted them to match – $225
- Front driver’s headlight washer squirter & cap – $35 – I leave the hose from the tank disconnected to make removing the bumper easier in the future, but without a plug the pump leaks all the fluid from the washer.
- Radiator – $45 from brian little
- Core support – $100 from brian little
- Bumper shocks – $45
- Windshield fluid reservoir – $45 from Luke
- Fender bracket – $5 from Luke
- I purchased a fender from Luke because he assured me it was in mint condition. It showed up with a severe crease that I didn’t notice until after I’d paid for it. He did not offer a refund so I threw it away. I mended my bender by hand and covered it with a bandaid sticker
- Took a hammer to the hood to bring it back somewhat flush to the headlights.
- My driver’s side RS4 SMIC was tweaked a little and partially torn. I patched it with JB weld. A later pressure test showed the repair was solid.
- While I had the front end off I checked the timing belt tension and replaced the original rusted front lower coolant pipe with one from Bart.
- I still have a dash brake pad error from one of the front brake pad sensors. Zac thinks that the wire has just broken inside the insulation.
